In 2 minds....

Okay, this is what I ended up doing with my burgundy shibori. I selected the best 15" square from each fat quarter, and sewed them together (tha bit is fine). Then I dyed some green fabric in a shade (Leaf Green) that was the opposite to Burgundy on the colour wheel. That's also fine. I wanted to give the quilt some zing, seeing as it was so monochromatic.

However, I can't decide whether I like the result. So here's the choices:
  • leave it with the contrasting 6" green border
  • cut this down to say 2" tops and add a Burgundy outer border.
What do you think, blog readers?

I like your second choice. I think that would pull it all together more. Right now it seems almost like two separate pieces. I absolutely love the dyeing you have done.

Hard to say at this point although I would lean more towards your second choice. Depends on what further things you will be doing to this. Big help, aren't I;-)

Not feeling the green - I thought you had just put the red top on top of something green for the photo - I didn't realize they were sewn together until you mentioned it! The green isn't strong enough and shrinks into the background. I say keep the inside pieces together and just get a different border!

Just re-read your second choice and understand it better. I thought you wanted to cut the top into 2 pieces. Silly me! But YES your 2nd option sounds like a great idea! I do think the green would work well as an inner border with burgundy for the main outer border. Can't wait to see it!

I tend towards the second option too. I think the flash of green will make it zing!

Can I toss in a 3rd option? How about a sahsing of the same green but a much darker value between all of the red blocks, then an inner border of dark green, a middle narrow border of the red and outer border of the light green? My mind keeps wanted to frame those shibori squares to set them off. But that may not be at all the look you are going for!

I sent you an e-mail with my thoughts.

Yipes - hope I didn't freak you out with my suggested redos. I deleted them from my computer as soon as I sent them.

No of course not, Rayna. I'm delighted that other people take the time to suggest improvements. I'll be attacking this over the weekend.
